Swapna George Assistant Professor of Law


Swapna George, a post-graduate in Administrative law from Kerala University, holding Diploma in Journalism from Institute of Journalism under the Press Club Trivandrum, and having certificates of Film Appreciation Course conducted by Institute of English of Kerala University, and of Certificate Course in Parliamentary Practice and Procedure of Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training run by Kerala Legislative Assembly, and of Counselling Course Level 2 from Mar Thoma Hospital and Counselling Centre, has worked in various areas in different capacities.

During the period between May 2008 and July 2010 she served as Sub Editor/Reporter specifically handling legal writings in Kalakaumudi Weekly based at Thiruvananthapuram. From 2011 to 2016 she acted as a member of Prison Advisory Board, Women’s Prison, at Trivandram. In between she was also member of Kudumbasree Mission Executive Committee from 2013 to 2016 and Legal Consultant of Women’s Commission during the period from 2012 to 2014. Apart from these she was member of Kerala State Youth Commission from 2014 February to 2017 February as well. She has also served as Ex-Officio member of Sexual Harassment Internal Complaints Committee, State Women’s Commission, and Directorate of Coir Development etc.

On the academic side, she was guest faculty of Kerala University SDE, Institute of Journalism of Trivandrum Press Club, Police Training College Trivandrum and Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) Kerala.

As a writer she has penned a lot of articles for various journals and magazines including Mathrubhumi daily, Kerala Koumudhi daily, Mangalam daily, Malayalam weekly, Kalakaumudhi weekly and Madhyamam weekly.

Moreover, she has also written an article on Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013 in the book titled ‘Anadhikarathinte Bhalaprayogangal’ published by Chitha Publishers. Similarly she has published research study report on the topic “Sexual abuse on Cyber Space” for Kerala Women’s Commission.

In her career so far, she has presented various papers on Child Rights, Legal Aspects of Protection of Women and Sexual Abuse, to her credit. She has also been part of Anti Trafficking Unit of Kerala Police as a social activist.
